details
The renowned "Somdej Tua Non" (Worm-shaped Somdej) with a Salika bird on the back was created to commemorate the appointment of Luang Pho Wong of Wat Pariwat as a third-class abbot of a public temple, receiving the title "Phra Khru Khantayapiram."
Luang Pho Wong received his appointment at the main chapel of Wat Ratchabophit. Luang Ta Yim Apipunyo, a monk from the temple, carved the unique mold for the Somdej amulet, known among his disciples as the "worm-shaped" design.
It comes in two sizes: small and large. The amulet is made from sacred powder that Luang Pho Wong had been preparing for over 10 years, mixed with strands of his hair. The back of the amulet features a pair of Salika birds.
The "Somdej Tua Non" of Luang Pho Wong is believed to possess all-encompassing spiritual power, but is particularly renowned for its power of loving-kindness and popularity. In the past, there were stories of young men who obtained the amulet and ground it into water for women to drink, causing them to become infatuated.
When this was reported to Luang Pho, he cursed anyone who used the amulet for evil purposes. "May it be destroyed," and then he stopped distributing his Phra Somdej amulets. The remaining amulets he placed in the pagoda at Wat Pariwat are the Phra Somdej amulets, the ultimate in loving-kindness and popularity, from the Wat Pariwat lineage.
