The first edition of the Phaya Tao Ruean (small turtle) amulet, Luang Pu Liu, Wat Rai Taeng Thong, issued at Wat Sanam Yae in 1974, is a very popular block, a block with a moving talisman and wings.
The model that is creating the most buzz right now must be the first edition of the Phaya Tao Ruean (small turtle) amulet, Luang Pu Liu, Wat Rai Taeng Thong, issued at Wat Sanam Yae in 1974, or known among direct disciples as the Lanna 17 model. It is powerful with Buddhist virtues and countless experiences that are endlessly talked about, especially in terms of toughness and invulnerability, which have been experienced by many people, making this model famous.
It is a highly collectible amulet because it is the first edition of the small turtle amulet with the image of Luang Pu sitting for the first time, and there have been many experiences. The distribution of this turtle model is also very strange. Old people said that sometimes, when distributing them, Luang Pu would let the recipients reach into the holy water jar themselves. Some of the people who reached in didn’t get a single amulet, while others said that the turtles swam directly to their hands, only two or three amulets at a time. This is a very exciting story among the disciples.
Luang Pu created this amulet in 1973 and soaked it in holy water for 1 year. Close disciples told each other that Luang Pu Liu would chant every day until the turtle floated to the surface, then he would have his disciple scoop it up to worship. Sometimes, disciples would go in to see the turtle crawling all over the floor from the holy water, which was seen by close disciples. It was a miracle and people told each other. Its virtues of kindness and trade are very good. It is also invulnerable. It can be said that its virtues are universal.
This amulet is very easy to identify. It is a very popular block, the crushed yantra block or the dug yantra block, whichever you call it, is very rare, even rarer than the moving yantra block. Because this amulet has this unique characteristic, it is easy to identify and free from counterfeit. It is very popular among collectors.
********* This amulet model may cause confusion for new collectors because it was created many times and on many occasions, from 1974 at Wat Sanam Yae to 1993 at Wat Rai Taeng Thong (there were also creations in 17, 22, and 36), with very similar appearances. (But not exactly the same) The standard version must be the winged coin only (there is excess metal in the upper left turtle leg crevice). This is caused by stamping a large number of coins, causing the cutter to deteriorate and become damaged, resulting in incomplete cutting and stamping, and causing the excess metal as mentioned. Including the yantra on the back, there has been movement (the yantra block has moved and the yantra has been crushed). Some amulets have partially disappeared (the dug yantra). This characteristic makes the coin unique and easy to see, becoming a popular block. *********
It has a championship degree, 1st prize, a big event of the Thai Amulet Enthusiasts Association, organized by the 38th class of Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy students on July 13, 2025, held at the Ratprasasanaphakdi Building, Chaloem Phrakiat Government Complex (Building B), which had a lot of people submitting amulets. It is not often that a big event is held, so many amulets are submitted, if they are not truly beautiful, they will not be included, which is a guarantee of beauty and originality.
