Luang Pu Si Phinthasuwanno (Bamrungkit), 88 years old (1894-1983)
History of
Luang Pu Si Phinthasuwanno (Bamrungkit) Luang Pu Si was born on 22 July 1894, corresponding to Sunday, the 5th waning moon of the 8th month, Year of the Horse, at Ban Don Klang, Tambon Krajiu, Amphoe Phachi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. His father's name was 'Kan' and his mother's name was 'Lek'. He had 6 siblings and he was the oldest son.
Education:
When he was 8 years old, his father sent him to study Thai and Khmer at Wat Suthat in Bangkok, under the supervision of a senior monk of the Chao Khun level. From his initial education, he was very proficient in Khmer script.
Ordination
He was 14 years old. Ordained as a samanera. While being a samanera, he studied Pali Scriptures (Mulakaccayana) until he was able to translate Pali proficiently. He was a samanera until the age of 23, then he returned to be ordained as a monk at Wat Sakae by the introduction of his elders. He entered the boundary of Wat Sakae on May 9, 1917, which was a Wednesday, the 4th waning moon of the 6th lunar month of the Year of the Snake, with Luang Por Klan as his preceptor, the abbot of Wat Sakae as the preceptor of the sermon, and Phra Ajahn Phut of Wat Sakae as the preceptor of the anusavañña. He received the religious name 'Phindsuwanno'. After he was ordained as a monk, he did not continue to study theory. He turned to study Buddhist magic, with Luang Por Klan of Wat Phrayathikaram as the preceptor. He also traveled to study with many gurus, such as Wat Pradu Songtham, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, until the latest lay guru was Ajarn Heng Praiwan. His study of Buddhist magic was very strong. He even studied medicine to cure diseases such as parasites and studied fortune telling, which could predict fortunes very accurately. As for amulets, he was a monk with supernatural powers. Villagers and high-ranking officials, such as Mr. Kuang Aphaiwong and various lords, became his disciples until Ratchakhru Wamthepmuni, who came to ask to continue studying with him. He created all sacred amulets, such as the image of Maha Phrom, the square-shaped Brahma, Pidta, Buddha amulets, and various images. He was a monk with good conduct who could foresee the future. In his life as a monk, he did not often fall ill. He had a serious illness once when he was 84 years old. On January 29, 1983, when the sun was about to set, he fell seriously ill with a wind disease. Even though his disciples tried their best to treat him, his condition did not improve at all. And finally, his last day came, on January 30, 1983 at 6:05 a.m., when he passed away while meditating in his hut. He was 88 years old and had been a monk for 65 years.
Wat Sakae has been developed, improved and has been gradually recognized because there are many capable teachers, especially Luang Pu Yai Tinsuwanno, who is capable of governing and managing. It can be seen that during the time he governed Wat Sakae as the abbot between 1938 and 1982, he developed, improved, repaired and constructed many buildings and religious sites of the temple. He was also the one who initiated the official creation of Wat Sakae’s sacred objects in 1950 by assigning Luang Pu Du Phrompanyo to be the one to proceed. In that year, Wat Sakae created many types of sacred amulets and sacred objects made of sacred powder and baked clay. As for Luang Pu Si Pinsuwanno, he was a teacher who was accepted in terms of Buddhist magic, medicine, fortune teller and predictor who could know the future, which was widely accepted by his disciples. In terms of the sacred objects he created, his disciples witnessed and accepted the Buddha’s power and sacredness. And Luang Pu Du had the opportunity to collaborate with Luang Pu Si to create amulets of Wat Sakae on many occasions. Moreover, Luang Pu Du also brought the molds of Buddha images, especially the molds of various Brahma images of Luang Pu Si, to create many of his amulets as well. It can be seen that both teachers were important to Wat Sakae and had a direct relationship with Luang Pu Du Phrom Panyo, as mentioned above.
