Luang Por Ruay was born on Saturday, February 10, 1934, the Year of the Rooster, at Ban Tung Ton, Tambon Noen Phra, Amphoe Mueang, Rayong Province. He had a total of 9 siblings. Originally, Luang Por had a desire to ordain for only 2 years. Later, he moved to reside at Wat Map Ta Phut in 1961 and was appointed as the abbot in 1964 onwards.
Luang Pho Ruay of Wat Map Ta Phut is a direct disciple of Phra Khru Wichian Thammakitti, or as the public knows him, Luang Pu Hin of Wat Nong Sanom, a great monk and teacher of magic in Rayong Province. His reputation for magic is said to be extremely powerful.
