A fake Facebook account claiming to be Singapore’s Speaker of Parliament, Halimah Yacob, was taken down on Friday (18 Dec).
The politician had taken to her own Facebook page a day before to alert her followers to the account, which she said was “using [her] name and posting [her] pictures”.
Responding to queries from Yahoo Singapore, Facebook said it had removed the fake account.
“While we can’t comment on the specifics, for background, we were alerted and the account in question has since been removed,” a spokesperson for the social network said.
In her post, Halimah also said a person was using her name to “fraudulently tried to scam money from others”, and that she would be making a police report.
She has also asked the public to alert her if they come across other fake accounts using her name.
